The diva drama is over. Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, who made headlines throughout season 12 of American Idol with their ongoing feud, are officially parting ways with the show.
“Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world!” Minaj tweeted Thursday, confirming rumors that she would not be returning for a second season of the hit singing competition. “Time to focus on the Music!!!”
Mariah Carey is also apparently leaving to focus on her music. “W/ Global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour and says goodbye 2 Idol,” her PR firm tweeted.
With Carey and Minaj leaving the show, and veteran judge Randy Jackson retiring from Idol after 12 years, Keith Urban is the last man standing from the season 12 judging panel.
The country singer told People magazine that he would like to stick around for another season of the singing competition.
“I would [love to return],” he said. “I mean, I literally enjoy coming to work every day and that’s a rarity.”
